AcupunctureAcupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine practice which involves inserting fine needles to into the surface of the body. It has about 5,000 years’ history of practice and more than 2,000 years of written evidence of practice in China. Effectiveness of this time-honoured healing art and medical intervention for management of several conditions has been demonstrated with modern scientific research.
For instance, it was reported in 2017 that medical scientists from the UK and USA conducted a meta-analysis of 17,922 patients who had chronic pain including musculoskeletal pain associated with the neck and low back, osteoarthritis of the knee, headache and migraine. They concluded that “acupuncture was more effective than both usual care and sham acupuncture. Acupuncture is one of the more clinically effective physical therapies for osteoarthritis and is also cost-effective if only high-quality trials are analysed”.[1]Only TGA-approved single-use and sterilised needles with guide tubes are used in this clinic. The guide tubes can help minimise the pain when the needles are penetrating the skin; it is also called "pain-free" needling.
Chinese Herbal MedicineChinese herbal medicine is one of the important components in Chinese medicine for prevention and treatment of diseases. Botanical resources, such as barks, seeds, flowers, roots, or mineral substances, are prescribed and administered in the form of decoctions (where herbs are boiled in water), pills, washing lotions, or ointments for conditions diagnosed by Chinese herbal medicine practitioners.
Effectiveness and safety of Chinese herbal medicine for various conditions such as atopic eczema have been well evaluated through systematic reviews.[2] In addition, the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine 2015 was awarded to a Chinese pharmacologist You You Tu for her discoveries concerning a novel therapy against malaria.[3] The novel therapy uses Artemisinin extracted from the Chinese herb Herba Artemisiae Annuae (Qing Hao), which has been used for treatment for malaria for hundreds of years in Chinese medicine practice.TGA-approved concentrated herbal granules and herbal patent pills are available in this clinic for your convenience. Concentrated herbal granules save the time of cooking (involved when raw herbs are used) and there will be no herbal smell in your kitchen any more.
MyotherapyMyotherapy (myo-muscle, therapy-treatment) is a newly discovered soft-tissue therapy used in the physical diagnosis, treatment and management of muscular disorders, which affects the integrity of human movement. The skeletal muscles are the largest single organ of the human body and are very vulnerable to injury. Modalities of deep soft tissue massage, passive stretching, corrective exercises, electrical stimulation, myofascial trigger point acupuncture (dry needling) and patients' education are employed in Myotherapy Treatment.[4]
CuppingCupping therapy is used to treat different conditions including musculoskeletal problems such as tight and stiff muscles. It uses negative pressure created inside the cups to stimulate the surface of the body in order to tackle the problem directly. Its effectiveness and safety has been well documented.[5][6]
